Starting a website
What this is about
Many people want to build a website for many different reasons. Some, to share things with family and friends, others to create an area for them to express themselves in hobbies or other things in their lives.
Then you have the beginning webmaster who wants to make some money. They see this wonderful opportunity before them and just want to get in on the billions of dollars in revenue that the web has to offer. The truth is, it is not that easy! Some hard facts
1. Just like anything else it takes money to make money on the internet. Nothing can be started for free.
2. 99% of the how to guides out there teach you to attempt to create and sell a guide just like it. They do not really teach anything on the internet.
3. The internet can eat up your life with little payout. You can spend hours and hours going in the same circles and never getting anywhere.
4. Things are not what they where ten years ago.
5. It takes a fresh idea to make money, and even then, you have to present the idea in a fashion that will get you the $$$. So, what do I do? I could write a dictionary on the bad paths I have taken with attempting to make a living using this virtual world. The truth is I still struggle day to day. I have, however, found some helpful things that I can pass along to all of you to get started.
What you need to get started is a domain name, host, and an idea. Lets start with the idea.
Sit down with a piece of paper and write my ideas at the top. Then set an alarm on your watch, or an egg timer for five minutes.
Start writing your ideas down during this five minutes. Do not stop to think, edit, or anything else, JUST WRITE.
Go line to line, flip pages if you need to.
After you have this done, group like ideas into a web page. Then, from this point brain storm those web pages just as above. Write down the main idea of each group then spend five minutes brain storming that idea.
You can go even further with this. Take your pet project and break down into daily achievable goals what you want to do with each project.
You have the ideas, now how do you do it?
The best way, is to go to a host and check to make sure they offer Wordpress. This is a blog engine that is easily customized by even the most beginning webmaster who can read basic tutorials.
When you install from your server, write down user names and passwords, and install straight into your root folder. Just leave the area after the / blank.
Of course, along with the host you will want a domain name.
From this point, its all about just learning a few things. Lets break those down and you can do some searching in Google to learn them.

6. Wordpress Widgets There is your study material. Using this program anyone can make a website, and with luck (although these days most do) you can just install from your host and get going. Read something every day! Meet those goals, and sooner or later you will start to see some type of income. What to sell
This depends solely on your ideas. These days you can offer anything from adult material (Tough to get into) to per click advertising to other sites. This is where the magic formula will come in. The best thing to start with is to search around for products and look at the bottom of their page for a webmaster, or affiliate link. THEN, type that product into Google and see how many people are using similar ideas as yours. Keywords are important and the items you are promoting tend to be one of the main words you end up making money off of. Take the time to look at trends, see how things are going. You might search internet product trends or keyword tools, to get this information. Good Luck, I wish you the best, and a profitable future. Just remember, it is not all fun and games, you are going to have to work to make that mighty dollar! It can and does pay off, you just cannot give up!
